Compagnie Barbarie’s performances are always full of funny events that also make the audience think. This already starts with the title. A premiere is the first time a theatrical performance is performed before an audience. The performance Premiere is all about the first time. About: the beginning. The five women of the Flemish theater collective are looking for a good start to their performance. But they doubt every attempt, and constantly invent new beginnings. Because when you think about “how to begin something,” suddenly nothing comes naturally. After all, a beginning also determines how something continues. And once you have started, can you start all over again?

Especially for this performance, Compagnie Barbarie has invited an extra actor. Francis is a young actor just out of drama school. Premiere is his first real performance, and he is eager to get started. The others all have their ideas about it. There are people who don’t want to start anything because that always means an end. Or who start all kinds of things but never finish anything.

Using very simple theatrical means, Compagnie Barbarie allows spectators aged 8 and over to philosophize about a theme that affects everyone. The performance is about what a beginning actually is. About all the first times you did or experienced something. And about the desire you can have to experience things that have happened again. Or to be able to experience them again.
