Only during the Tweetakt festival is this historic fortress island, which is part of the Dutch Waterline and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, open to visitors. Selecting the visual arts exhibition on the fortress island, Tweetakt strives for a variety of art forms. Such as: sculptures, moving kinetic objects, light artworks, installations, tapestries or interventions in the public space. They are made by young and experienced, Dutch and foreign artists.
At Fort Ruigenhoek, the works relate to the exciting, semi-dark bunker spaces, or to the outdoor nature of the island. They are often works of art that were made for an adult audience, and that Tweetakt also finds interesting for a young audience. A number were created at the invitation of the festival for a specific location on the fortress island. The following artists will be exhibiting works: Stijn ter Braak, Thirst by Oscar Peters, Kirsten Schra, Leslie Nagel Ignacy Radtke, Sietske Zandbergen, Georg Eortzen, Henok Getachew, Johanna Arco and Ursa Prek.
Visitors will receive a map showing where all the works of art can be found. In the chapiteau tent, visitors can respond to what they have seen with a postcard to an artist. Children can do a treasure hunt on the island, where Tweetakt, in collaboration with nature organisations, also draws attention to the plants, animals and birds on the fortress island. There are also guided tours that you can sign up for at the cash desk.
There are various workshops that you can sign up for at the cash desk of the fortress. Entrance fee to the fort is 5.00 and reduced 2.50
