Waste to Art

As a little boy, Maas van Duijnhoven was always looking for treasure. While walking, he looked at the ground, because you can find all sorts of things there. Later, when he became an artist, he started doing that again. But now to look for things that you can make into a work of art. He makes the most fantastic images from the rubbish he picks up on the street. Like the action heroes that can be seen at Fort Ruigenhoek. He has put them together with bottle caps, twigs, coloured pieces of plastic, parts of broken devices, and sometimes there is even a skull of a dead animal in it. They look a bit like transformers. Each action hero was given a name, and Van Duijnhoven came up with which special powers they all have. He put them on self-made posters, so that it looks like the characters are very famous. He called his action heroes The Findlings, which means: something that has been found.

Maas van Duijnhoven not only likes playing, he also finds it important. For him, making art is also a kind of playing. With his action heroes he followed his imagination, and by playing with all kinds of stuff, he turned them into new toys.
