Research of water ripples
Do you ever look at a puddle of water when it rains? The drops make circles in it, small ones with larger ones around them. And when the wind blows, you see all kinds of waves in the water. It is something very ordinary, that not many people usually pay attention to. Artist Kirsten Schra wants to show how special this actually is. How many shapes there are in moving water, and how beautifully the light is reflected in it.
She does this with her artwork The Ripple Effect. And visitors to Fort Ruigenhoek can participate in this! In a bunker hang images of moving water, which Kristen Schra places on transparent shapes on which the visitor shines a light, creating the projections.
It is dark in the bunker, and everyone who goes in is given a flashlight. They help you see where you are, but you can create your own lighting effects with them. For example, shadows on the walls, and extra light on the water images. This makes it a work of art that everyone is in the middle of. Together with a musician, Schra also made music and sounds for the images. It is an experience for your eyes and ears.
