Monster or machine
In a bus driving across the country, Professor Badurella has set up a fantastic laboratory. It is a secret laboratory, so the children entering the bus must get on quickly and very quietly. On Professor Badurella’s examination table is a very strange, big, mysterious thing. It looks like a device but also like a little creepy animal. The professor needs the children’s help to figure out what this “creature of the road” is. Because since it’s on the table, nothing has been working in the laboratory. Together they dissect the thing animal. Could this be an ear? Are these the wings? Do we hear the heart beating, or is that the machine inside? And is the creature scary, or maybe sweet?
Wegwezen was conceived and created by theatremaker Maxim Storms, who previously delighted everyone at Tweetakt with his absurdist and poetic performances. The colorful laboratory in the bus was designed by theater designer Rachid Laachir. Together, Maxim and Rachid wanted to take young children through an exciting event where they have to deal with threats they don’t understand. In a playful way, the children learn not to be afraid of what they do not know. By appealing to their curiosity, and allowing them to think and explore, they overcome their fear of the unknown together with the professor.
