Mask and the Worm
“Welcome to my happy world! Mask IV: Alex” is the title Greet Weitenberg came up with for her latest series of artworks. She started it back in the days of Corona. At the beginning of the pandemic, everyone was kind to each other, taking care of each other. But as Corona lasted longer, that changed. Between people who thought differently about vaccinations and measures, came misunderstanding and hostility. And Greet Weitenberg thought: we all need something soft that makes us happy. So she started making cheerful things with lots of colors, from fabric, wool and yarn. She was inspired by colorful people and by the plants and flowers in her garden.
In Theater Kikker hangs a wondrous head that Greet made. It is beautifully made and full of funny details. Like the colored strings in the dark brain, which look like happy thoughts. The head smiles, and sticks out its tongue. That tongue is so long that the end of it lies on the floor. This end looks like a paw or a hand. As if the head wants to make contact with whoever is looking at it.
