All the things brought together in this space were made by Lucy Vink from second-hand clothing.
She called this artwork Deadstock, which refers to clothing from our shops that has not been sold. It is often destroyed, or ends up in waste mountains in far‑off countries. Lucy Vink gives these ‘dead clothes’ a second life. Her ‘noodle chair’ is made from unsold tracksuit bottoms, which she stuffed with shredded throwaway-clothing. The ‘sockies’ are soft little creatures made from old socks that the artist received from friends and family members. Also very beautiful is the net of discarded ties, interwoven and knotted together. In all these new objects, you can still see what the original garments were that Lucy Vink used. You can still see ‘the ghost of our clothes’ within them.
Lucy Vink studied Industrial Design at TU Delft, followed by a master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, which she completed in 2025. She focuses on the hidden stories within textile waste processing. For her graduation project Deadstock, she carried out research at a textile sorting centre in Tiel.
