Dance and acrobatics are interwoven in this poetic performance for toddlers. It explores the experience of doing something new. Something that you do not really dare to do.
The title Antes de… means: right before. What happens in your body and in your mind right before you do something exciting for the very first time? If doubt or fear holds you back, how can you overcome this? By helping each other, Sara Olmo and Pierre Viatour show us. They take turns leading each another. Hand in hand, foot to foot, back to back.
Sara:
‘At the beginning of the performance, I don’t dare. Pierre invites me. He says: come on, let’s go. Later on, he himself ends up in a vulnerable situation, and I take over. Then I guide him.’
Pierre:
‘That was important to us: to show that it’s not always “the traditionally strong one” who helps. The smallest can carry the biggest. That’s true on stage, but also in life.’
Helping one another is also at the heart of the acrobatic partner work in the performances of dancer Olmo and acrobat Viatour. They constantly have to support each other during their performance. For Antes de… they explored many different ways of carrying one another. The technique they use in doing so is, at Compagnie Tea Tree, always in the service of the story and the emotions it conveys. And what even the very youngest audience members pick up on is the joy the two performers share together.
Compagnie Tea Tree uses dance and circus to tell stories with. This new performance is supported by the Brussels production house BRONKS, which for 25 years has been presenting leading theatre for a young audience with seasoned and new makers.
