There are children who like structure and routine, and who do not like chaos, surprises and unfamiliar people. Children who become angry when there are too many stimuli, and sometimes even furious. AUTSJ is about such a child.
A visual performance about dealing with sensory impressions. If you find new things exciting, or a little scary, how do you overcome that fear? So that you still dare to try new things? And how do you move from a ‘level’ of over‑stimulation to a ‘level’ of relaxation?
AUTSJ is a visual performance with very little text, and lots of action and dance. And kung fu. Director and creator Jaike Belfort is a great fan of this powerful and graceful Chinese martial art. She is creating this performance as a guest director with the Utrecht‑based youth theatre company Het Filiaal, where, until now, she has appeared on stage as an actor. She started directing because she also wants to tell her own stories. And in AUTSJ she brings her two passions, theatre and kung fu, together.
