This rhythmic dance concert for the whole family is also an invitation to come and dance along. It starts with a performance. Two dancers and a musician follow the beat that everyone has in their own body: the beating of your own heart.
Knock knock, who’s there? Boom boom, what do I hear? Something is pounding beneath my ribcage. My clock, my rhythm. My heartbeat. It is always there and keeps me in motion.
You see the rhythm moving through the bodies of the performers. It makes them dance. It makes their feet stamp and lets their hands strike the table. And when the performers start drumming and singing along, it becomes music, and they build a party. At the finale, the children (and accompanying adults) are allowed to come onto the stage. Playfully, rhythm constructions are made. Together we discover how we can dance, drum and sing whatever our heart gives us.
The Utrecht‑based company De Dansers, specialised in performances in which dance and live music come together, wants to let the youngest audience experience that everyone can dance. For this purpose, Smaakmakers was developed: inspired by the joy of dancing in a performance, and through simple assignments, the children eventually take over the dance floor.
