A boy sits alone on a bench by the school sports field. There is no one coming to pick him up. Looking at the sky, he is overwhelmed by questions.
Why do I sometimes feel so alone while there is so much in this universe? How is it that the Earth is so large, but just a tiny dot in the Milky Way? When have I grown up, or will I never? Or do I expand endlessly, just like the universe?
Then a portal to another dimension opens in his backpack. Suddenly he is no longer alone with all his questions. There are others who help him explore gravity, and catch him when he falls. And who eventually float upside down with him through the Milky Way.
An imaginative, physical theatre performance about sometimes feeling lonely, but being in that together. This first original production by Freek Nieuwdorp, made in the talent development programme of Maas, won a Zilveren Krekel last year for the most impressive youth theatre performance. And received a nomination for the Jonge Zwaan, an award for the best youth dance production. ‘Between witty and touching dance scenes, the boy asks big questions,’ an enthusiastic review stated. ‘There is a great deal of enjoyment in this performance. For both the performers and the audience.’
