From a marble run, Leon de Bruijne created a funny machine. A large steel marble rolls between the beams on an inclined conveyor belt. It is a bit sad for the marble. It just keeps rolling and never reaches the bottom.
De Bruijne named his artwork after Sisyphus, a king from an ancient Greek story who was punished by the gods: every day he has to push a heavy stone up a hill, which then rolls back down again. The artist likes to use everyday objects for his absurd machines. Some time ago, for example, he made a ‘Christmas tree cannon’ that shoots Christmas trees into the air.
Leon de Bruijne (1992) studied Fine Arts & Education at the AHK and subsequently completed a Master in Fine Arts at KASK in Ghent. He makes absurdist, mechanical installations and performances. Humour and slapstick are, for him, means to explore serious ideas.
