We all have to say goodbye sometimes. When you leave nursery because you are going to school. When your friend moves away. When your favourite pencil breaks. Or when your grandmother is suddenly no longer there. But how do you actually do this: saying goodbye? And what if you are the one who stays behind?
In the musical, visual performance Zeg maar dag, three sailors try all kinds of attempts to say goodbye. They wave, embrace each other, sing to one another and wave some more. They pretend they are leaving, but they also come back again. In this way, they practise what this is: leaving and leaving someone behind. Or staying when the other does not. They experience the feeling that comes with it fully. Sadness because you have to miss someone and joy when you find each other again, in a rapid alternation. Poetically and comforting, this performance makes space for big feelings for small people.
The creator and director of Zeg maar dag is Sara Giampaolo. She has previously made sparkling theatre for the very youngest at Maas, such as the toddler performances Doe eens lief and PRRRT PRRRT FLAP FLAP. Imaginative, without many words and with great empathy for what occupies the youngest spectators.
